Chinese, Japanese FMs on Bilateral Relations

The present Sino-Japanese relationship is keeping its good momentum of development, said Chinese foreign minister Tang Jiaxuan Saturday in Bangkok, noticing that since entering the office, Japanese prime minister Mori Yoshiro has more than once expressed that he pays much attention to the further development of Japanese-Chinese friendly relations.

Tang said this when having a breakfast with his Japanese counterpart Yohei Kono, both are here for a series of the Association of Southeast Nations (ASEAN) meetings.

China has always paid much attention to the good relationship with Japan, Tang added, citing that President Jiang Zemin made a very important speech on the strengthening of Sino-Japanese friendship in May, which has produced very important and positive influence on the healthy development of the bilateral relations.

The two countries should take advantage of the present favorable chance to further add more contents to their bilateral partnership of friendly cooperation, and push forward the healthy, stable development of their relations, Tang said, expecting Kono to visit China so as to have more exchanges on issues of common interest.

Kono agreed completely to the assessment of the current situation of the Sino-Japanese friendly relationship made by Tang. He stressed that the Japanese government will go on with its unremitting efforts for the promotion of Japanese-Chinese relations, saying Japan is looking forward to Premier Zhu Rongji's formal visit to Japan later this year.
