China's Qaidam Basin to Become Major Lithium BaseThe Qaidam Basin in northwest China 's Qinghai province, well-known for its salt lake resources, will become the country's major production base for lithium products, scientists have said.A group of scientists from the Salt Lake Research Institute under the Chinese Academy of Sciences recently announced that they have successfully solved problems of separating lithium from halogen solution which contains large concentrations of magnesium. "We will soon start a lithium production project based on this technology," said a research follow with the institute. At present, China's lithium products rely mainly on imports. There are 33 salt lakes in the Qaidam Basin. At present the basin is China's largest production base for kalium fertilizer. |
