Sydney Olympic Chief Promises Help If Beijing Wins 2008 Games

Sydney Olympic Games chief Michael Knight said on Friday that Beijing has a strong bid for the 2008 Games, but he came short of saying that Beijing is a favorite candidate.

"Beijing has an excellent bid for the 2008 Games and I have no doubt if they are lucky enough to be selected by the IOC (International Olympic Committee), then Beijing would host an excellent games," said Knight, also Olympic Minister of New South Wales State.

"If they are fortunate enough to be chosen to host the 2008 Games, if there is anything that we could do to assist in that process of sharing information about conducting a Games, then we would be delighted to do so," Knight added.

Knight said that doping was a global problem and he was impressed by China's anti-doping efforts.

"I'm impressed with the efforts they're making at a national level to clamp down on any efforts by individual competitors or coaches to cheat," he said.
