Chinese Company to Restore Hydropower Station in Cambodia

China will assist Cambodia to restore a damaged hydropower station at Kirirom, a place 110 kilometers from here, under a contract signed Friday.

The project will begin in the middle of next year with a cost of 20 million U.S. dollars and will be completed by early 2003, according to Suy Sem, minister of industry, mine and energy.

China Electric power Technology Import and Export Cooperation ( CETIC) will carry out the project and transfer it to Cambodia 30 years later.

When the project is completed, it will produce 12 megawatts of power which will also be distributed to Phnom Penh with a cable connection of 115 kilo volts.

The hydropower station was once operated in early 1969 with the cooperation of former Yugoslavia, but it was erupted completely since 1970 when the war started in this country.
