Harsher Rules for Corrupt OfficialsOfficials in south China's Hunan Province are facing severe punishment if they do not register and turn in valuable gifts they have accepted as bribes, the Workers' Daily reported Friday.Those who do not register and turn in the gifts, including cash, negotiable securities and valuables will be removed from their positions prior to further administrative and disciplinary punishment. The provincial Party committee's disciplinary department and the provincial supervision department recently issued a circular to strictly prohibit Party and government officials to accept valuable gifts. The rules will take effect on October 1 this year. Family members of local officials are also banned from using their connections to accept valuable gifts. The officials will be punished, if their family members break the rules, regardless of whether they have been informed in advance or not. |
