Bilateral Trade Between Fujian and Taiwan Rising

The bilateral trade between China's Fujian and Taiwan provinces reached 1.319 billion US dollars in the first half of the year, a 23.36 percent rise on a yearly basis, according to local customs statistics.

Imports in Fujian reached 1.129 billion US dollars, up 21.9 percent from the 1999 figure, while exports reached 189 million US dollars, up 32.88 percent.

Fujian province has a trade deficit of more than 940 million US dollars.

Fujian imported 231 million US dollars of goods in terms of general trade from Taiwan in the six months, a 120.9 percent increase from last year, and imports of material for processing reached 631 million U.S. dollars, up 8.59 percent year-on-year.

Overseas-funded enterprises in Fujian accounted for 86.28 percent of bilateral trade volume between Fujian and Taiwan in the six-month period, or 1.138 billion US dollars.
