NATO Secretary General Threatens Yugoslavia over MontenegroNATO Secretary General George Robertson Thursday made a threat against Yugoslavia over the tension between Serbia and Montenegro, the two republics which make up what remains of the Yugoslav Federation.In an interview with the French daily Liberation, Robertson said that NATO would not tolerate any action against Montenegro by Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic. "(Montenegro) President Milo Djukanovic has a democratic mandate, works in the framework of constitution. He should be able to complete his mandate," said Robertson. Montenegro recently rejected a constitutional amendment voted by the Yugoslav parliament, which allows Yugoslav President Milosevic have one more year of presidential mandate after it expires next year. Robertson will begin on Thursday a visit to France, the current rotating presidency state of the European Union, to discuss issues of European defense. |
