Fujian Border Guards Call for Reunification of ChinaOn the eve of the Army Day (August 1), the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), soldiers guarding the 3,300-plus kilometer coastline of Fujian Province held various activities to express their desire for the reunification of the motherland.A blackboard-writing contest, with "celebrating August 1 to expedite reunification" as its theme, was the highlight of the activities. Many officers and soldiers wrote articles expressing their hopes for the early reunification of the motherland. An officer of a naval police unit of Fujian Province's public security border force wrote an article titled "Soul of Soldiers, Their Aspirations for Reunification", in which he said, "We should do our own job well, sternly crack down on crimes such as illegally immigrating to other countries, smuggling, narcotics traffic and robberies, maintain public security in the Taiwan Straits, deal with emergencies and offer disaster relief and provide Taiwan ships and compatriots with quality services." It is reported that all the border defense units, checkpoints and naval police units along the coast of Fujian Province have contributed to the reunification of the motherland with their deeds. They guarantee the security of Taiwanese ships and compatriots, and dash ahead to rescue distressed ships and persons regardless of their own safety, thus have been called the "living Mazu of the sea". The Fujian Public Security Border Defense Headquarters has also set up a website to help all the officers and soldiers to get information on the Taiwan Straits. |
