CASS Obtains State Funding for 50 Academic Projects

Researchers with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) have obtained state funding worth 2.59 million yuan (312,000 US dollars) for 50 academic projects carried out this year.

Average funds for each academic project this year range from 40, 000 to 55,000 yuan, an official said. Meanwhile, the academy itself will add another 25 percent for each project.

Many well-known scholars are focusing on practical issues including Chinese investment in foreign countries, macro-control of the economy during deflation, the influence to China's industry after entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO), the WTO and China's intellectual property protection.

CASS encourages its researchers to apply for financial support from the National Social Sciences Fund and will provide money for them to take part in international academic exchanges.

Among the 7,066 applicants nationwide this year, 650 received support from the national fund.
