China's Coal Export Expects to Hit 40 Million Tons This Year

China expects to export 40 million tons of coal this year, as the country is expanding coal exports and world market shares by stepping up construction of export coal production bases and improving coal quality.

According to today's China Coal Industry News, China is the world's largest coal producer, but its coal export accounted for only 2 percent to 3 percent of the country's total coal output.

To expand coal export is of great significance for the sustainable development of China's coal industry, which can effectively reduce coal stockpile and achieve balance between coal supply and demand.

The newspaper said that China has great potential for coal export. The pressing problem facing the country's coal export is to improve coal quality and lower production cost.

Meanwhile, China has to step up construction of ports and railways for the purpose of transporting coal.

The paper cited experts as saying that China's coal export is very likely to hit between 200 million to 300 million tons in a few years if the sector continues to do well.

In addition, with China's entry into WTO, China will also increase coal imports to diversify its coal products and increase quality coal supply.
