Nationwide Search for Hostesses Begins

To prepare for the 21st Universiade, China will select 200 hostesses from college students from 12 cities - Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Harbin, Changchun, Shenyang, Xi'an, Jinan, Wuhan, Nanjing, Hangzhou and Chengdu, as China Daily reported Thursday.

All the women will have to be both good looking and polite.

Requirements include being 1.68 metres to 1.70 metres tall, 18 to 25 years old and the hostesses will need good spoken English.

Preliminary contests are scheduled for August to December this year, with the final to be held from February to March next year.

In contrast to the 1990 Beijing Asiad, this search will look for hostesses across the country. This will with no doubt lead to a bigger participation among college students and so will help promote the 21st Universiade.

To be held from August 22 to September 1, 2001, the 21st Universiade will be the first comprehensive world sports event China has ever hosted.
