China, Ecuador Sign Bilateral Agreement on China's WTO Accession

China and Ecuador signed here Wednesday the bilateral agreement on China's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) after the completion of their bilateral market access negotiations through friendly consultations.

At the end of the signing ceremony at the WTO headquarters, chief negotiator of the Chinese Foreign Trade Ministry Long Yongtu and Ecuador's Ambassador to the United Nations Office in Geneva Roberto Betancourt agreed that the signing of the bilateral agreement between China and Ecuador would further promote the development of the two countries' cooperation in trade and economy.

It would also strengthen the friendship between the two countries and speed up the process for China's WTO accession, they said.

Not long ago, China completed bilateral trade negotiations with both Guatemala and Costa Rica, leaving Switzerland and Mexico the only two out of the 37 WTO members which have expressed intention to have further bilateral negotiations with China.

According to the Chinese delegation, major progress has been made in China's negotiations with both Switzerland and Mexico and China expects to reach agreements with them soon.
