New Deputy Commissioner of Foreign Ministry in HK Assumes Office

Cui Zhanqiao, a veteran Chinese diplomat, assumed office of deputy commissioner of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region ( HKSAR) Wednesday, replacing Liu Hongxiao.

Cui, born in northeast China's Liaoning province in October 1942, began to serve in the Chinese Foreign Ministry in 1965 after college graduation.

Cui used to work at Chinese embassies in the former German Democratic Republic, France, Barbados, Singapore and the United States.

Cui is married with two daughters.
