DPRK, ROK FMs Meet for the First Time in Over 50 Years

Foreign ministers from the two sides of the Korean Peninsula held their first formal meeting in more than 50 years Wednesday in Bangkok.

They are here to attend the 7th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), which is to be held tomorrow.

This will also be the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK) first presence at the forum since it was accepted by it only recently.

The ARF is a multilateral forum tackling mainly security issues in the Asia-Pacific region.

During his stay here, DPRK Foreign Minister Paek Nam Sun is expected to have bilateral talks with a number of countries, some of which do not have diplomatic relations with DPRK.

In June, leaders of the two Koreas held a summit in Pyongyang to promote reconciliation and peace on the peninsula, after which,South Korea began supporting DPRK's bid for ARF membership.
