Chinese Geologists Publish World First Asia-Euro Geological MapThe Asia-Euro Geological Map of 1: 5,000,000, the first of its kind in the world, has been worked out by Chinese geologists recently.This huge, colorful map contains a wealth of information, and the latest data about the Asia and Europe continents. Previously, geologists had drawn maps for every continent, but had not put two continents onto one map to show their geological feature. The new map combines and compares the formation, evolution and constitution of the two continents, experts said. The 8.75-square-meter map, based on the geologic maps of countries and regions in Asia and Europe between 1985 to 1995, reflects regional geological investigation and research. The map clearly displays geological structural characteristics and the geological evolution of the Asia and Europe continents. Li Tingdong, geological map expert and academician with Chinese Academy of Sciences, was chief editor of the Asia-Euro Geologic Map. The map took four years with more than 10 specialists from the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences and is published by Geological Publishing House. |
