Some Ten Thousands of Black Storks Found in HeyangNews from the Animals Protection Department of Shanxi Province says: some ten thousand black storks which are facing danger of extinction in the world, are found proliferating in the habitat of Yangjiahe Village, Heyang County.Heyang County lies in the east of Guanzhong Plain with the Yellow River to the east, the Liang Mountain at the north, adjacent to Yuantian of Libei County in the south and the Dayu River vales to the west. Jumping into your view are tall, luxuriant and densely shading trees when you step into a wide and deep dale of hundreds of meters long in the village and on the branches of the trees are found numerous nests of black marabous, some trees even having dozen of them. Though nested layer upon layer in a disorderly way, yet they present quite a scenic attraction. Every morning, flocks of black marabous leave here fishing and catching insects for food along the Yellow River sides, and when the night falls, they will return to feed their young ones with a splendid supper. What a paradise of black storks! The black stork is alias called gray marabou. Resembling the wild goose, yet its long legs and beak are like that of a crane and it looks like a goshawk when flying. Since the black stork is the bird species on the brink of extinction in the world it has been put on the first-rate list for wild bird protection at the national level. It is said that even the natives cannot tell when the village has become the habitat of the black marabous. Usually, in every early spring, a large number of black marabous flock here to nest, stay and breed their young ones. When the White Dew falls (a solar term in Chinese lunar calendar), they migrate away in groups and won't return until the next spring. Furthermore, the number of them is increasing annually. |
