Guangdong Pledges to Remain Export Champion

Guangdong Province in south China aims to reach its goal of exporting 90 billion yuan (US$ 122) in goods this year, so that it can continue to claim 40 percent of the country's total exports.

Vice-Governor Tang Bingquan made the pledge at a provincial foreign trade conference held on July 25.

The province's exports saw a year-on-year 32.9 percent rise to US$ 42.86 billion during the first six-month period.

Guangdong also reported an increase in foreign investment in the same period, with total foreign direct investment up 42 percent to US$ 3.85 billion.

However, Tang warned that growth rates of both exports and foreign investment went down month by month in the half-year period, and more efforts are needed to hit the target for the year.

For this purpose, Guangdong will continue to expand its export markets in Hong Kong, Macao, the United States, Japan and European countries, while tapping new markets in eastern Europe, southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa and South America, the official said.
