Pakistani Chief Executive Meets Chinese Foreign Minister

Pakistani Chief Executive General Pervez Musharraf Tuesday met with Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan, who is on a three-day visit to Pakistan. Tang conveyed cordial regards and best wishes from Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji to Musharraf. The two sides exchanged views on Sino-Pak relations, international and South Asian issues.

Musharraf said that the Pakistani government gives high priority to development of friendly and cooperative relations with China and will firmly follow a policy of friendship with China whatever changes there may be at home or abroad Tang pointed out that Sino-Pak relations of good neighborhood, friendship and cooperation have stood the tests of time and international changes. The friendship between China and Pakistan is not only in the fundamental interest of both countries and both peoples, it is also beneficial for the promotion of peace, stability and development of the region. The Chinese government is willing, together with the Pakistani side, to make sustained efforts for the consolidation and further development of the traditional relations of friendship and cooperation between China and Pakistan.

Musharraf stressed that Pakistan will continue on the path of dialogue with India for the peaceful resolution for all outstanding disputes, including the Kashmir issue, so making contributions for peace and stability in the South Asian region.

Tang expressed appreciation of the Pakistani position.

Tang arrived in Pakistan on the evening of July 23 to pay a visit at the invitation of Pakistani Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar.

During his stay, the Chinese foreign minister called on Pakistani President Rafiq Tarar. He also had successful talks with the Pakistani foreign minister.

Tang has left Pakistan for Bangkok later on the evening of July 25.
