China Beat Bangladesh in Asian Junior Handball Championship

Last time runners-up China thrashed hosts Bangladesh 29-12 Tuesday evening at the Sixth Asian Women Juniors Handball Championships, the Independent reported Wednesday.

China dominated the whole show against the hosts and led the first half 20-5, frustrating some two thousand home crowd.

In the opening match, reigning champions South Korea had to unravel their full strength to tame the stubborn Chinese Taipei squad. The Chinese showed unexpected resistance against the tournament favorates but went down 26-32 despite leading the first 20 minutes of the match.

In the day's third and last match, India earned an emphatic 39- 8 victory over their neighbors Nepal after leading the first half 21-4.

Seven countries and regions were pooled into two groups for the preliminary rounds competition, and the top two group finishers will enter in the semi-finals on July 29.

The Group A comprises title holders South Korea, Chinese Taipei, India and Nepal. Hosts Bangladesh has been placed in the tough Group B along with China and Japan.

Three top teams from ensuing meet will qualify for the World Junior Handball Championship to be held in Hungary from July 29 to August 12,2001.
