Guangdong, Heilongjiang Join Hands for Big Deals

Guangdong Province in south China and Heilongjiang Province in the northeast plan to launch 32 economic cooperation projects and three trade deals with an estimated volume of nearly over 3.5 billion yuan (US$ 422 million).

The announcement was made Tuesday at a press conference sponsored by Heilongjiang Province.

Top Heilongjiang government and Party officials have been on a study tour in Guangdong, the pioneer in implementing China's policy of reform and opening to the outside world.

Officials said the two provinces have good potential for cooperation in industry, foreign trade, tourism and scientific research because of their complementary conditions.

Heilongjiang, an important grain production base in China, has been witnessing rapid development of border trade with Russia. It has rich oil and gold reserves.

Guangdong, with 5.6 percent of China's total population, created 10 percent of the country's gross domestic product. The two provinces have launched over 300 economic cooperation projects since 1985.
