Xinjiang Improving Major Port

An international trade building funded by a Hong Kong group went under construction Tuesday in Kashi City of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, northwest China.

Kashi has convenient air, road and railway systems, and the local airport is the largest in southern Xinjiang. Kashi has four ports and passages for freight handling as well as a number of large wholesale markets.

The new building, with an investment of 840 million yuan (US$ 101 million), lies in the city's commercial center and is just a kilometer away from the railway station.

Scheduled for completion next May, the building is expected to be the commodity distribution center for middle and western Asia as well as Europe.
