Chinese Scientists Playing Big Role in Fighting Falun Gong

Chinese scientists are playing a major role in the nationwide campaign to fight the notorious Falun Gong cult and create greater public awareness about sciences in the country.

Between April-June this year, the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) sent over 20 scientists to travel and lecture across the country to educate people how to combat cults with sciences.

Meanwhile, CAST has also continued sponsoring a series of forums on safeguarding sciences which were inaugurated in 1995. The seventh and eighth of the forums were held in Beijing in March and June this year.

From March-April, CAST co-sponsored a project to promote culture and ethics and a one-week photo exhibition encouraging people to learn more about science and oppose superstition. The exhibition attracted some 150,000 visitors.

Since May, a large-scale program, including exhibitions, seminars and contests have been launched by the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and CAST. This program, which is to last through until October, is aimed at spreading the knowledge about science and strengthening the public's ability to recognize and oppose superstition.
