Chinese Vice-President Ends Visit to IndonesiaChinese Vice-President Hu Jintao left Jakarta Tuesday noon for Belarussia after ending his four-day official visit to Indonesia.Hu and his wife Liu Yongqing were seen off at the Halim Military Airport by Indonesian Coordinating Minister of Social Welfare and Poverty Eradication Basir Hasanuddin, Minister of Communication Agum Gumelar and other Indonesian high-ranking officials as well as Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Chen Shiqiu. During his stay in Indonesia, Hu met with President Abdurrahman Wahid, and held talks with Vice-President Megawati Soekarnoputri on bilateral relations and matters of mutual interest. "Our talks have achieved active results," Hu said after the talks. Hu also met separately with Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly Amien Rais and Speaker of the House of Representative Akbar Tanjung as well as people from the business circle. During the visit, Hu expressed the hope that the two countries could continue maintaining close cooperation and mutual support in safeguarding national sovereignty, territorial integrity and in keeping off the external intervention. "I am convinced that with concerted efforts of both sides, the Sino-Indonesian good-neighborly and friendly relations and cooperation will continue to make new progress," he said. In a speech at a luncheon given by the Indonesian business circle, Hu called on Indonesian businessmen to do business actively in China. He said that the Chinese government will also encourage Chinese enterprises to invest in Indonesia. During the visit, China and Indonesia signed a legal assistance accord, namely "Treaty between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Indonesia on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters." Indonesia is the third leg of Hu's five-nation tour. Before his visit to Indonesia, Hu had visited Myanmar and Thailand. He is expected to visit Belarussia and Kazakhstan from July 25 to 30. |
