USFK Issues Official Apology for Illegal Disposal of Toxic Waste

On July 24, Daniel Petrosky, Lieutenant General and Commanding General of the Eighth U.S. Army offered the Korean people his "deepest apology for the incident and the resulting stress and anxiety due to the disposal of formaldehyde" into the Han River by the U.S. Army.

This is the first official apology made by the Eighth United States Army Commander for an action by the USFK(United States Forces Korea) since Korea's national liberation in 1945.

Commanding General Petrosky promised to "take appropriate corrective action based on the results of our investigation and take all steps necessary to preclude similar events in the future," in his written apology,read by Colonel Samuel Taylor, USFK public affairs officer, on July 24 at the Ministry of National Defense.
