Dalian Naval College's Guards of Honors

The Dalian Naval Ship College, aiming at the frontier of military high technology, is valiantly engaged in reform and innovation and making pioneering progress. Centered around the goal of winning a modern war, it has made fruitful exploration and practice in training people of high qualities and has blazed a new trail in this regard.

Their experiences are manifested mainly in the following four aspects:

A conviction of dedicating to national defense. Political quality is the basic quality of highly qualified military personnel. This college has always put ideological-political construction in the first position and stressed education in ideal and conviction. Acting on the school mottoes of "being dedicated and rigorous, and seeking self-improvement and truth from facts", they have been creatively carrying out "blue project" education with the love for the naval vessel, the island and the ocean as the theme, and they firmly drive "the three piles"--ideal and conviction, the awareness of military spirit, and the spirit of dedication, so that the students become revolutionary army men loyal to the Party and the people.

An outstanding contingent of talented field commanders. College and university are the sources and bases for the growth of talented people, while the teaching and research contingent is the mainstay of college and university. The Party committee of this college regards the knowing, selecting and employing talents as a permanent project of building up a contingent of highly qualified teachers, it brings in talented field commanders without sticking to formalities, and employs these commanders to cultivate talents.

A spirit of reform and innovation. Reform and innovation is the fundamental way of training talents of high qualities. This college was the first in the army to reform the educational system by introducing the method of "training people of all-round development through the teaching of multiple subjects". On the basis of inheriting tradition and in light of new changes in the new historical period, it updated its concepts, it did away with the former teaching method of "cultivating professionals through the specialized subject", and created a compound, all-subject teaching method, by which to train all-round people meeting the needs of modern war. It traces frontier science and technology, brings in large numbers of science bellwethers, it strives to cultivate the spirit and ability of innovation in students, so that they become new-type, compound military personnel.

A set of practice-oriented teaching methods. Integrating theory with practice is another distinguishing characteristic in bringing up people of high qualities. It's not enough to rely only on school classrooms to train commanders who have a mastery of military science and technology and can command thousands upon thousands of horses and soldiers and can control the whole situation. The training must be based on practice. They have carefully designed highly practical teaching contents and methods, they have pushed the students to the "blue classroom", "social classroom", "international classroom", "actual combat-simulation classroom" to steel themselves there, and encourage students to transform their high-tech knowledge into actual-combat ability.

Winning a modern war needs highly qualified people, similarly, building up a modern, powerful socialist country also needs personnel of high qualities. For this reason, the experience of the Dalian Naval Ship College is of important practical significance whether in terms of army building or of implementation of our strategy of "rejuvenating China through science and education".
