6,631 Township Enterprises Build Factories Overseas

The number of township enterprises opening factories overseas has broken 6,000 companies for the first time, according to the National Township Enterprises Bureau. Moving factories abroad is a sign that the township enterprises have adopted international standards to produce, sell and manage their companies.

In the first half, township enterprises nationwide underwent structural reforms, completely turning around their high production rate but low economic efficiency trend. They have expanded both domestic and international markets. To date, there are 130,000 township enterprises whose products are sold all over the world. 2,500 out of the 130,000 township enterprises have received official permission to import and export. And 6,631 township factories have directly gone overseas and built factories.

China Township Enterprise Research Institute Secretary-General Chen Jianguang said, the township enterprises have been battle-tested in the market economy for many years. Now, not only does it want the domestic market share, but many are starting to look abroad for a piece of the international market. It is natural for this kind of economic development.

Many township enterprises have permission to import and export and have gone abroad to invest in factories, directly exporting their products. This year, export of township enterprise products saw a huge rebound. The consignment value of township enterprise product exports was 342.6 billion yuan in the first half, up 8% from the same period last year to 16%. Township enterprise exports have increased relatively faster in the Guangdong, Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces.
