Activities Planned for Shundi -- Ancestor of The Chinese Nation

Yongzhou City in central China's Hunan Province will host a range of activities for Shundi, one of five mythical ancestors of the Chinese nation on September 9.

Local sources said the activities will include a public memorial that will be held in front of the Mausoleum of Shundi, located at Jiuyi Mountain in Ningyuan County of Yongzhou City, as well as seminars, trade talks, fairs and exhibitions.

According to historical records, Shundi was the founding father of Chinese ethics and morals. The Mausoleum of Shundi was first built in Xia Dynasty (C.2100-C.1600 B.C.).

Ming (1368-1644) and Qing ((1644-1911) emperors all traveled down south to Yongzhou to pay their respects to Shundi leaving behind dozens of steles bearing epigraphs marking their visits.

The steles are now kept inside the mausoleum.

Local sources said that the Mausoleum of Shundi has just been repaired costing 32 million yuan, including donations from Taiwan compatriots.

The repaired ancestral grave area now covers 20,000 sq m. Zhou Yongliang, one of the organizers, said the activities are designed to carry forward traditional Chinese values and strengthen the spirit of the Chinese nation.
