More Sci-Tech Institutes to Become Enterprises
China is turning 134 more state- funded scientific and technological research institutes into enterprises this year.
The move comes after last year's successful transition of 242 large scientific and technological research institutes into enterprises.
The transition of the 134 institutes is expected to be completed by the end of September. They will operate with a new management mechanism as of October 1, the paper said.
The institutes are now affiliated mainly to 11 government ministries and bureaus and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Transition of state-run scientific research institutes into enterprises is an important restructuring in the science and technology sector, aiming to bring the institutes into the market and believed to be conducive to the application of research findings.
