Automatic Patrol Realized along China's Northwest Frontier

Soldiers in the remote northwest frontiers had to carry on patrol duty on horses in the past, while today an automatic patrol car equipped with a set of computer, wireless transmitter and video camera can realize an all-round patrol and inspection work.

By doing so the headquarters of the garrison division, though hundreds kilometers away at Yili, could receive very clear pictures from the frontier areas.

This indicates that the northwest frontier has been successfully linked up with the national military network, and the remote and long northwest border region has stepped into a new era of automatic patrol.

According to PLA Daily correspondent, with the swaying and positioning of picture-snatching lens operated by cadres in the patrol car, the changes of the moving car on the coordinate, the boundary stones and posts and every action of soldiers can be viewed clearly at the headquarters.

To further carry out the strategy by the Central Military Commission of building a strong army with advanced science and technology the military regions of Lanzhou and Xinjiang have been tapping for new ways of patrolling and border-control. In the middle of May, an investment of 2.6 million yuan was made for building the automatic patrol system.

The adoption of the automatic patrol system has enabled our armed forces to shake off the backwardness and restrictions of the out-of-date patrol equipment and avoided the problems of narrowness in area-control and slow in discovering situations and timely handling of cases, thereby bringing every corner in frontier regions under control.
