HK, Macao Co-operate on Intellectual Property Rights

A team from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) will pay a visit to the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) for a friendly exchange on intellectual property rights Tuesday.

According to a government release yesterday, the HKSAR team includes four government intellectual property department staff and representatives from the Hong Kong intellectual property society.

The heads of the two intellectual property offices had initial contact when Jose M P Coutinho, the head of the intellectual property department of the Macao SAR Government, led a team of four intellectual property officers to Hong Kong in January 2000.

"This is to follow up on our previous agreement to meet regularly to explore ways to improve communication and co-operation on intellectual property protection," said Stephen Selby, the team leader and director of intellectual property in HKSAR.

"We will further explore the possibility of working together on public education relating to intellectual property protection, sharing data about our intellectual property systems and sharing any useful information that we gain during overseas fact-finding missions," Selby said.
