Asia-Pacific Financial Conference Opens in Shanghai

The 7th APFA annual conference opened in Shanghai Monday, with more than 400 economists, professors and entrepreneurs from the Asia-Pacific region to discuss finance and technology in the 21st century.

The three-day meeting is expected to address a range of issues, such as financial difficulties of bankrupted enterprises, relations between banks and enterprises, company acquisition and merger, financial markets and disclosure of information.

The meeting will also discuss China's current financial market and problems faced by policy-makers particularly after China's accession to the World Trade Organization.

Cheng Siwei, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, made a keynote speech on the virtual economy and financial crisis.

The conference is jointly sponsored by Shanghai Jiaotong University and Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Founded in 1993, the APFA has held its annual meeting since 1994 to promote financial cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.
