Courts Urged to Help Develop Western Areas

Courts Urged to Help Develop Western Areas
A senior Chinese official has urged all courts to provide correct and effective judicial protection for implementing state strategies to develop China's underdeveloped western areas.

Wei Jianxing, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, made the call here at a training course for court presidents from western areas.

A socialist market economy can not be built up and perfected without a sound legal environment, Wei said. He urged to study and stipulate laws and regulations for protecting the implementation of these state strategies in accordance with law.

All courts should play their judicial roles and crack down on crimes to create a sound secure environment, he said. Wei called on judges to be politically firm, strict, upright and selfless.

According to official sources, some 150 local and military court leaders have attended the training course at the Beijing- based National Judges College.
