Macao Helps Build Broadband Medical Network

The Beijing University, one of China's leading institute of higher learning, is cooperating with three companies in Macao to develop a satellite-aided broadband medical network.

The program is aimed at pushing forward the cooperation in medical research and education among medical institutions in China and other parts of Asia, Li Jie, president of the Macao Satellite Communications Co. Ltd., said at a related press conference on Monday.

Linked with a satellite center at the Beijing University, a data center will be built in Macao to send medical data to clients with the help of a satellite. The network is expected to be put into practical use at the end of this year.

The medical network will greatly benefit hospitals and medical research and educational organizations, and individual doctors and medical students all across Asia, Li Jie said.

The Beijing University boasts a large number top-ranking medical specialists and educators and it has established close ties with medical institutions around the world. In particular, it has developed a remote educational center supported by a campus computer network.
