Delicious Northern Melon Planted in South ChinaHami melon, a popular cantaloupe from northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, has been successfully planted in the country's southern areas including Zhuhai, Hefei, Xiamen and Hainan.In the past eight years, scientists cultivated Hami melon seeds in Xinjiang's Turpan area every spring and summer, and took the seeds to south China's island province of Hainan. Scientists have developed eight new breeds of Hami melon such as Jinfenghuang and Xuelihong, for the southeastern coastal areas and southern part of China, according to sources from the Ministry of Agriculture. Agricultural experts predict that large amounts of Hami melon will be planted in south China in the near future. |
