Chinese Vice-President Meets Indonesian Business Circle
Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao Monday called on Indonesian businessmen to develop business actively in China.
Hu made the call during his meeting with President of Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Aburizal Bakrie, General Chairman of the Association of Indonesia-China Economic Social and Cultural Cooperation Sukamdani Sahid Gitosardjono and other 200 businessmen.
Hu said both China and Indonesia are the biggest developing countries which have a large population.
Noting that both governments have paid great attention to the bilateral trade, Hu said bilateral economic ties have broad prospects. He said the Chinese government will also encourage Chinese enterprises to invest in Indonesia.
In their addresses, Bakrie and Sukamdani expressed the hope that economic relations between two countries will grow in the future.
Sino-Indonesian trade volume had risen by three fold to 4.51 billion US dollars in 1997 since the resumption of bilateral relations in 1990. The trade volume dropped though in 1998 due to the impact of the Asian financial crisis, but reported a recovery last year with a 34.1 percent increase in the first 10 months compared to the same period last year.
