U.S., British Warplanes Bomb Southern IraqThe Iraqi army says American and British warplanes attacked civilian areas in southern Iraq on Saturday.A spokesman says 11 formations of U.S and British planes made 19 armed sorties over six southern provinces. He says Iraqi air defense opened fire on the planes, forcing them back to their bases in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Iraq claims the U.S and Britain jets have killed 300 civilians and injured nearly a thousand others since they launched the Operation Desert Fox air strikes against Iraq in 1998. |
