China to Hold Third Internet Contest

The Third China Internet Contest will be held nationwide from August to December, with the theme " The Internet and the Future of China".

The contest will be in 14 parts, including the National Internet Knowledge Contest, the China Enterprise Information Development Contest, China Family Online Shopping Contest, China Miss Internet Selection, and China Stock Exchange Online Contest, according to Xu Yongguang, director of the organizing committee.

Xu said that the effort is aimed at increasing people's awareness of the importance of information and promoting the development of the country's information industry.

The China Internet Contest is the only state-level Internet contest authorized and directed by the China State Information Development Promotion Office.

All the 31 provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions and special administrative regions in the country have set up special departments responsible for the organizing, promotion and production of the contest.

The third contest is being jointly sponsored by the China Youth Development Foundation, China Central Television, China Telecom, the Bank of China and the China Enterprise League.

The contest has been successfully held twice, in 1998 and 1999, respectively, with the themes "You Should Know the Internet" and " The Internet and the New Century".
