Harder Crackdown on Narcotics Urged

The 5th International Heroin Conference of ICPO-Interpol ended here today with a call for effective strikes against drug crimes.

The conference urged all member countries of the International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO) to supply information and operational achievements to the ICPO regularly, and to organize anti-narcotics training courses regularly.

Zhu Entao, assistant minister of public security and chairman of the conference, said in a speech at the closing ceremony that "the conference will be of far-reaching influence for future cooperation among the members of the ICPO."

Over the past four days, more than 260 delegates from over 60 countries and international organizations have been attending the conference, and some 40 participants have made presentations covering the production, trafficking and consumption of drugs, as well as the control of precursor chemicals.

Zhu said that the Chinese government and its law-enforcement departments will continue their effective cooperation with the United Nations, the ICPO and other countries worldwide, and make more contributions to the eradication of narcotics and the healthy development of society.
