Chinese Vice-President Arrives in Chiang Mai

Visiting Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao Friday arrived in Chiang Mai, the second-largest city of Thailand, Friday morning to continue his five-day official visit to Thailand.

Hu and his entourage were greeted at the airport by Governor Pravit Sihsobhon of Chiang Mai Province, Consul-General Liu Yongxing of the Chinese General Consulate in Chiang Mai and representatives of Thai Chinese and Chinese in Northern Thailand.

Hu and his wife Liu Yongqing were saw off at the Air Force Airport of Bangkok earlier Friday by Thai Deputy Foreign Minister Sukhumbhand Paribatra.

Before leaving Bangkok, Hu and his wife had breakfast with Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

In Chiang Mai, Hu is expected to meet Governor Pravit Sihsobhon of Chiang Mai Province, representatives of overseas Chinese in northern Thailand, former Thai Senate Speaker Meechai Ruechupan and Supreme Commander Mongkon Ampornpisit.

The Chinese vice-president is scheduled to leave Chiang Mai for Indonesia Saturday Morning to go on his five-nation tour which includes Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, Byelorussia and Kazhakhstan.
