Chinese Vice-President Meets Thai LeadersVisiting Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao met Thursday with Thai crown prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and senior Thai parliamentary, governmental and military leaders separately.During the meetings, Hu said the two countries and two peoples have already established friendly relations marked by mutual trust, mutual understanding and mutual support, which are particularly valuable in country-to-country relationship. He expressed the hope that the two sides can strengthen cooperation and further promote friendship in the new century and the new millennium. Prince Vajiralongkorn said Sino-Thai relations are deeply rooted and are as inseparable as relatives and brothers. He believed that the Chinese vice-president's visit will definitely further promote the friendship between the two peoples in the new century. During his meeting with the Chinese vice-president, Prem Tinsulanonda, president of National Assembly Privy Council, praised the Thai-Chinese relations as "pure, sincere and friendly, "saying that developing bilateral cooperation will surely win support of the two peoples. President of National Assembly of Thailand Bhichai Rattakul said during the meeting that the friendly relations between the parliaments of the two countries play an important role in strengthening bilateral cooperation and people-to-people friendship. He said the "one China, two systems" principle put forth by the late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping is "pragmatic, promising" and the Thai government and parliament will stick to the "one China" policy in both administration and registration and will never change the stance under any circumstances. Thai Supreme Commander of the Supreme Command Mongkon Ampornpisit told the Chinese vice-president that the Thai armed forces have "strong" wishes to strengthen friendly relations with the Chinese military. Talking about anti-drug issue during the meetings, Hu said how to deal with the problem should be decided by every government itself, adding that China is willing to play an active role under any anti-drug regional and international framework. Hu, arrived here Tuesday, is scheduled to leave Bangkok for Thai northern resort city Chiang Mai early Friday. |
