Supreme Procuratorate Set up Anti-Malfeasance Department

China's Supreme People's Procuratorate announced Friday it has set up a new department to deal with officials who have violated citizens' rights or are derelict in their duties.

The new Anti-Malfeasance Department is based on the former Procuratorial Department for Law and Discipline, Zhao Dengju, a deputy procurator-general, said at a news conference here today.

The new department was formed to mainly deal with malpractice by government officials at county-level and above, misuse of power by judicial staff, dereliction of duties by administrative law-enforcers, and government officials implicated in infringement of citizens' personal and democratic rights, according to Li Baotang, director of the new department.

Li pledged to make breakthroughs in handling malfeasance connected with major industrial accidents, illegal use of government funds, reduction or exemption of taxes for personal profits, abnormally excessive spending on state projects, and fabrication of statistics.
