HK Mobile Operator to Offer Internet Radio Service

New World Mobility (NWM), a leading mobile operator in Hong Kong, announced Thursday that it will launch the Internet radio service in August.

The Internet radio content will be provided by RadioRepublic. com, a subsidiary of multi-media information technology group SAR1. NWM and SAR1 have entered a strategic partnership to develop Internet-based mobile service.

As the initial stage for their cooperation, the Internet radio will enable NWM mobile phone users to listen to a wide range of live radio programs, from news to entertainment, through their handsets. The service does not require any registration charge or monthly fee, and the only charge is for airtime.

In the following stage, NWM will also become a payment partner of SAR1's eCyberPay, facilitating online purchases for NWM's WAP phone users.

To prepare for the arrival of the third-generation (3G) mobile communications, NWM will work with CinemaRepublic, com, also a subsidiary of SAR1, to test video and movie programs in a 3G environment.

New World Mobility has 620,000 PCS subscribers, over one-third of the total PCS market, by the end of June 2000.

In addition to a wide range of value-added services such as financial information services package, NWM is active to introduce mobile stock trading service and some other mobile multi-media services to cope with the growing market demand.
