Party Should Use Theory to Teach People: Official

China's publicity chief has said that the Communist Party of China (CPC) should use important theories to teach the people.

Ding Guangen, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, said at a meeting discussing the spread of the Party's theory, held from July 17 to 19, that the Party and people should use President Jiang Zemin's instructions to unite their thinking.

Ding, also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, urged theorists to answer questions raised in the course of the country's development, and solve practical problems puzzling both cadres and ordinary people.

The nation will be full of hope if the people are guided by Marxism, Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought and particularly Deng Xiaoping Theory, Ding stressed.

He said that the building of correct ideals and strong belief should be the focus of the Party's theoretical work, and the Party 's basic theories, lines and principles should be well publicized.

Theorists must make use of things and events that the people love to see and hear in spreading the theories, and combine the forces of both logic and persuasion in persuading the people, according to Ding.
