Double-Digit Growth for Guangdong's Foreign Trade

South China's Guangdong Province scored a total volume of 78.45 billion US dollars for imports and exports in the first six months of the year, up 29.8 percent from the same period last year.

The volume accounts for 36.2 percent of the national total, said customs sources.

In breakdown, exports made up 42.82 billion US dollars, and imports 35.63 billion U.S. dollars, up 32.8 percent and 26.2 percent respectively.

Overseas financed businesses continued to be Guangdong's leading export player and exported 22.21 billion U.S. dollars worth of commodities from January to June, up 28.1 percent or accounting for more than 50 percent of the provincial export total.

Electro-mechanical commodities made up more than half of the province's exported commodities, with the volume amounting to 22. 23 billion US dollars.

A local foreign trade official attributed the fast growth to the measures undertaken to encourage exports, the economic recovery in Asian countries and the steady economic development in Europe and America.

In the neighboring province, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region also exported 687 million US dollars of commodities from January to June, up 34.2 percent from the same period last year.
