Camp David Talks Continue with No Agreement Yet, White House Says

U.S. President Bill Clinton was still mediating between Israelis and Palestinians in Camp David although no agreement had been reached yet in the final hours of the three-way summit, the White House said Wednesday.

"The priority for the president right now is to continue to work as hard as he can to make sure that every possible avenue toward an agreement is explored," spokesman Joe Lockhart said to reporters.

"That is the work that's going on now and will continue until he (Clinton) can make the judgment that there is no way to get there," he added.

In addition to meetings with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, Clinton had a series of phone calls Wednesday afternoon to leaders in the Middle East to give them some sense of on-going peace talks, Lockhart said.
