New Ocean Optical Cable to Connect Shanghai with East Asia

In addition to its four international ocean optical cables, Shanghai will soon have anther ocean optical cable.

The No. 2 Asia-Pacific Optical Cable will land in Shanghai in November and be put into use next year, according to sources with Shanghai Telecom.

The 16000-kilometer-long optical cable links China's Mainland, Japan, South Korea, China's Taiwan and Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. The cable also joins Sino-Amercian Ocean Optical Cable System and Euro-Asian Ocean Optical Cable System.

The cable, with a message transmission capacity of 2560G, enables 30 million people to communicate with each other simultaneously, greatly raising the efficiency.

The cable will land at Shanghai's Chongming and Guangdong province's Shantou city.
