Jia Qinglin, a member of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee and secretary of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee, met with a US delegation Thursday.

Jia extended a warm welcome to the delegation, which is composed of delegates from the US National Organization of Chinese Women and the US foundation for desert control of Inner Mongolia.

Jia said he greatly appreciated the delegation's current mission of preventing desertification in Inner Mongolia, and said Beijing would closely cooperate with surrounding regions, including Hebei Province and Inner Mongolia, to ensure a sound ecological environment in the capital.

The head of the delegation, Mrs. Wai-Jen Teffries, expressed the willingness of all the delegates to contribute to the environmental protection cause of the motherland.
