Arafat, Barak to Stay at Camp David While Clinton Is GoneUS President Clinton said early Thursday that Israeli and Palestinian leaders will remain at Camp David to pursue peace negotiations while he makes a three-day visit to Japan.``Nobody wanted to give up,'' he told reporters after nine days of intense negotiations at Camp David with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and Palestinian President Yasser Arafat ended late Wednesday without a deal. ``The gaps remain substantial but there has been progress and we must all be prepared to go the extra mile. After a round of intensive consultations this evening, the parties have agreed to stay at Camp David while I travel to Okinawa,'' Clinton said. ``We all thought it was over...but we discovered that nobody wanted to give up,'' he said. Clinton said he would assess the status of the talks after he returns Sunday from his Japan trip to take part in the Group of Eight nations' summit.
