Shanghai's Trade with Russia on Rise

Trade between Shanghai and Russia reached 220 million US dollars in the first half of the year, soaring 98.7 percent over the same period last year, Shanghai Customs statistics indicated.

The jump shows that trade between Shanghai and Russia benefits each other greatly, customs officials said.

During January and June, Shanghai, China's largest industrial and commercial center, imported 116 million US dollars worth of goods from Russia, increasing 37.6 percent.

At the same time, the city exported commodities worth 104 million US dollars to Russia, three times the level of the corresponding period last year. This also surpasses the total amount of the city's exports to Russia last year.

Main commodities Shanghai imported from Russia include product oil, aluminum, billet, steel products and newsprint paper.

Meanwhile, it exported garments, textile, shoes, mechanical and electrical appliances to Russia, the customs officials said.
