Qinghua and Cambridge Take to Rowing

A rowing friendly between Qinhua University and Cambridge University will be held in Beijing on August 20 to commemorate the one year countdown before the kickoff of the 21st Universiade on August 22, 2001.

Eight athletes from Cambridge's rowing team will compete against their Chinese counterparts from Qinghua University in Beijing's Kunyu River.

The racing distance will be about 2,300 metres.

In Britain, more than 180 rowing contests have been held between Cambridge University and Oxford University.

Beijing University and Qinghua University started their annual rowing challenge in 1999.

Organized by the Organizing Committee of the 21st Universiade, the event aims to strengthen the sports exchange between Chinese students and their foreign counterparts.
